Well that's it guys, I'm out of ideas.

I've posted in various forums, add the forum to various link directories, giving away freebies that can benefit the traffic coming to the website, and still I'm finding it difficult to build a quality member base for Webmaster Forum. I've toyed with the idea of developing a "Community Team", who's main focus would be marketing the site and posting on the forum in exchange for web hosting and domain names, but decided not to go ahead as I could see people using the freebies, but forgetting about the forum.

Anyone have some ideas to help build the forum? Any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated.

I agree about not offering the hosting & freebies. I would maybe just stick with offering the free advertisements, but not the hosting. It will take some time to get a userbase here though.

you could also take a look over a Warrior Forum. There's a ton of good info over there.

There is certainly a lot of great content on that forum! And it has 2000 members on it at a time! That's a pretty amazing achievement. I'll see what I can learn from them. Thanks for the suggestion!

As more and more competition shows up online for various forums, the need to offer value to visitors to your site is of prime importance. One thing I've noticed of late is that some forum webmasters don't keep a handle on the spam shows up in the posts. When all the spam starts showing up, if a site master doesn't immediately get rid of it, I often drift off to another forum. We're all after quality content that helps us in our own ventures or adds to our knowledge base.

Building up a forum takes time, Tim. Don't beat yourself up over it - just keep working at it. I think forums are one of the hardest things to get going, particularly in this niche where there are some very well-established players already. One suggestion I have would be to create a short report to give away and start building a list. In your follow up emails, be sure to put the forum in your signature file as well as promote it directly every few mailings.
