Some of us living in states where Amazon will not allow affiliates because of the Nexus issue. What options are there that are similar to Amazon that people living in these states are using?

I'm not one of the states affected, but I should imagine that perhaps those affiliates affected might be able to use eBay's affiliate program as a possible alternative. There's also Buy.com, Abebooks.com and Barnes and Noble - they too have affiliate programs.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say similar to Amazon but there are a lot of great affiliate networks out there, plus plenty of private ones. Figure out what type of products you want to promote and then find an affiliate network that offers them. Commission Junction, Share-a-sale and Link Share all have a huge variety of physical products.

It is extremely difficult to become an eBay affiliate these days, even if you have great content, white hat techniques and are above board in every way. You might try to make a list of possible items that would work well with your site and check to see if there are affiliate programs out there in those areas.

I would also recommend Commission Junction for the reasons mentioned above. Would you promote only physical products? If not, Clickbank is a good place to find advertisers paying the highest commission.
